Location: Dublin (various schools, community venues, and club settings)
Reporting To: Development Officer / Operations Director
Contract Type: Casual (non-guaranteed hours)
Hourly Rate: €35 per hour

Role Overview

The Olympic Handball Coach will be responsible for delivering high-quality, engaging, and inclusive handball sessions
across school, after-school, and club environments within the Dublin catchment area.

The role is central to growing participation, supporting player pathways, and enhancing the visibility of Olympic handball at grassroots level.

This position suits energetic, reliable, and development-focused coaches who are passionate about youth sport and
community engagement.

Key Responsibilities

1. Coaching Delivery

 Deliver structured handball sessions in:
o Primary and post-primary schools
o After-school programmes
o Club training environments
 Adapt sessions to suit varying ages (6–18+) and ability levels
 Ensure sessions are fun, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate

2. Session Planning & Preparation

 Plan sessions aligned with Olympic Handball Ireland’s coaching framework
 Prepare equipment and ensure safe setup/pack-down
 Track attendance and session outcomes where required

3. Player Development

 Identify and support talented players for progression pathways
 Encourage continued participation from school to club level
 Foster positive sporting values and teamwork

4. Safeguarding & Welfare

 Ensure all sessions comply with safeguarding standards
 Maintain a safe, inclusive environment at all times

 Report any welfare concerns in line with policy

5. Stakeholder Engagement

 Liaise with:
o Teachers
o School coordinators
o Club volunteers
 Represent Olympic Handball Ireland professionally in all settings

6. Administration

 Complete basic reporting (attendance, feedback, issues)
 Maintain communication with line manager regarding availability and scheduling

Person Specification

Essential

 Experience coaching children and/or youth sport
 Strong communication and interpersonal skills
 Reliable, punctual, and professional
 Ability to work independently across multiple venues
 Garda Vetting (or willingness to obtain)
 Safeguarding 1 certification (or willingness to obtain)

Desirable

 Handball coaching experience
 Coaching qualification (e.g. Level 1 or equivalent)
 Multi-sport coaching background
 Full clean driving licence and access to transport

Working Pattern

 Flexible, ad-hoc hours based on programme delivery
 Typical delivery times:
o School hours (9:00–15:00)
o After-school (13:30–17:00)
o Occasional evenings/weekends (club sessions/events)

Weekly / Daily Tasks

 Travel to assigned venue(s)
 Deliver 1–5 coaching sessions per day
 Set up and pack down equipment
 Engage with teachers / coordinators
 Record attendance

Monthly Tasks

 Provide feedback on programme delivery
 Highlight talent / pathway players
 Attend occasional coach development sessions

Ad-Hoc Tasks

 Support blitzes, festivals, or competitions
 Assist with promotional events or taster sessions
 Contribute to new programme rollouts
